Terms of Use

Beacon Mail

Effective date: September 8, 2026

These Terms of Use govern Beacon Mail and related support provided by Potato Studios Development LLC.

2. What Beacon Mail is

Beacon Mail is software that lets you access and manage compatible email accounts you already have. It connects your device directly to the provider you configure. Potato Studios is not your mail provider and does not operate a Beacon account service, mail relay, message store, or recovery service.

The app is in development. Features, platform availability, provider compatibility, and security controls may change before release.

3. Eligibility and authority

You may use Beacon Mail only if you can legally agree to these Terms and are authorized to access every account, mailbox, contact source, calendar, certificate, key, and device you configure. A parent or guardian must supervise use by a minor where required.

4. License

Potato Studios grants you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Beacon Mail on devices you own or control, subject to these Terms and applicable app-store rules. You receive no ownership interest in the app or its code.

5. Your provider account

You are responsible for your mail-provider account, credentials, security settings, charges, quotas, retention, and compliance with the provider's terms. You must use a supported authentication method and keep your device and credentials secure.

Beacon Mail can send, move, label, archive, trash, restore, or delete provider mail only when you choose the corresponding action and the provider accepts it. Network failures and provider behavior can leave an operation delayed, failed, or partial.

6. Local data and Offline folders

Removing an account or clearing a disposable local cache does not delete mail held by your provider. Provider deletion is a separate action.

If you explicitly convert an eligible folder to Offline storage, verified messages may be removed from the provider and the device can become the only copy. Losing, resetting, or uninstalling the device app may permanently destroy unexported Offline mail. You are responsible for reading warnings and keeping any export or restored provider copy you need.

7. Privacy and security limits

Beacon Mail is designed around an authenticated encrypted container for supported local mail and Beacon-owned private data. It also minimizes developer access to mailbox data, blocks remote content by default, analyzes tracker indicators locally, and can automatically wipe the container's encryption keys when enabled lock or supported security-event controls trigger. The Privacy Policy describes these controls and their limits.

When an automatic key wipe triggers, the encryption keys needed to decrypt protected local data are destroyed. Any remaining ciphertext cannot be decrypted or recovered without those keys.

No software can guarantee complete security, uninterrupted access, perfect tracker detection, successful delivery, or permanent data recovery. Local encryption does not control copies held by your provider, a message recipient, a link destination, or an already-unlocked device.

8. Prohibited use

You may not use Beacon Mail to access an account without authorization, violate law or another person's rights, distribute malware or abusive mail, evade provider safeguards, interfere with the app or another service, reverse engineer the app except where law permits it, or misrepresent the app's privacy and security behavior.

9. Third-party services

Beacon Mail depends on services you choose, including mail providers, operating systems, app stores, network operators, certificate authorities, contact and calendar stores, and external destinations you open. Those services are governed by their own terms and policies. Potato Studios does not control their availability, security, delivery, retention, account decisions, or data practices.

10. Pre-release software and updates

Development or testing builds may contain unfinished features, defects, compatibility problems, data loss, or interruptions. Do not rely on a pre-release build as the only way to access important mail or as the only copy of important data.

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue features or platform support. Updates may be required for security, provider compatibility, or continued operation.

11. No professional or emergency service

Beacon Mail is a general-purpose email client. It is not an emergency communication system, guaranteed notification service, records-management service, legal hold system, or substitute for professional security, legal, compliance, or backup advice.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Beacon Mail is provided "as is" and "as available." Potato Studios disclaims express, implied, and statutory warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, availability, accuracy, security, and data preservation.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Potato Studios Development LLC and its members, employees, and contractors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost mail, data, access, revenue, opportunities, or privacy; provider actions; delivery failures; security incidents; device loss; or app interruptions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limits rights you cannot legally waive.

14. Ending use

You may stop using Beacon Mail at any time. Before removing the app, export or restore any Offline-only mail you need, then remove configured accounts to delete their local credentials and disposable cache. Potato Studios may suspend distribution or support where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, provider compatibility, or misuse.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as Beacon Mail changes. We will revise the effective date and provide any additional notice required by law. Continued use after updated Terms take effect means you accept them.

16. General terms

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning Beacon Mail. If one provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; Potato Studios may transfer them as part of a merger, reorganization, or sale of the app or business.
